Murudeshwara Temple -Karnataka-Asia’s tallest temple gopura

Murudeshwara Temple :

Asia’s tallest temple gopura. The rajagopura is 249 feet tall, which is taller than the 243-foot gopura of Sriranganath Swami temple, Srirangam, Trichy, and the 239-foot-long gopura of Brihadeeshwara temple at Tanjore.

The new rajagopura is an excellent blend of beauty and magnificence. The big entrance door was symbolic of the destruction of ‘ego’ and pride concealed in humans.

The brain behind the tallest gopura, the Rajagopura has 21 floors, including the ground floor. This is the only gopura which has a lift and the devotees can go right to the top. The construction started in 1990.

There is Plans to have museums on all the 21 floors which could be of historical, mythological and religious importance. The 123-foot-long statue of Lord Shiva in the backdrop is a wonder to behold.
